Independent sales organizations (ISOs) are third-party organizations that partner with acquiring banks to find, open, and manage merchant accounts on behalf of the bank. In Canada ISO never debit or credit merchant credit card accounts. All debit machines and credit card systems are credited and debited by a bank. Here in Ontario, First Data, and the Toronto Dominion have ISO programs. Currently the ISO that I am a sale rep for uses BANK OF NOVA SCOTIA for processing the VISA cards and FIRST DATA for accepting MASTER CARD. AMERICAN EXPRESS POS (point of sale) Solutions for retail stores is processed by AMERICAN EXPRESS.
